Role Overview: Full-Time | Mid-Level
Focus: Backend .NET Services, Hardware Integration & Peripheral Driver APIs
Job Summary
We are seeking a Mid-Level .NET Developer to contribute to the refactoring and ongoing development of backend device services and peripheral integration layers across specialized hardware systems. In this role, you will work on backend system services, background workers, and driver integration layers that interface directly with physical devices—such as credit card terminals, printers, scanners, and custom hardware components. Working closely with senior engineers, you will focus strictly on backend logic and hardware communication to ensure reliable, performant, and error-tolerant peripheral operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Backend Service Development: Build, update, and maintain backend services, background tasks, and Windows Services using .NET 8 / .NET Core and C#.
- Hardware & Peripheral Integration: Assist in integrating vendor-specific SDKs, native driver APIs, and hardware libraries to communicate with physical peripherals.
- System Refactoring: Refactor legacy backend components into modular, maintainable, and testable service abstractions.
- Error Handling & State Logic: Implement robust state management, exception handling, and recovery routines for physical device operations.
- Code Quality & Testing: Write unit tests for hardware abstraction layers, participate in peer code reviews, and support automated test pipelines.
- Agile Collaboration: Participate in daily standups, technical estimation sessions, and sprint planning within a collaborative engineering environment.
Required Qualifications & Technical Skills
- Experience: 3+ years of professional backend development experience with C# and the .NET ecosystem (.NET Core / .NET 8 / .NET Framework).
- Hardware Integration: Previous experience or strong interest in interfacing software with physical devices, hardware peripherals, or external APIs/SDKs.
- Backend Fundamentals: Solid understanding of multithreading, asynchronous programming (
async/await), dependency injection, and RESTful API architecture. - Database & Tooling: Working knowledge of SQL Server, version control with Git, and debugging tools within Visual Studio.
Core Competencies & Cultural Fit
- Self-Motivated Learner: Eager to expand technical skills, adapt to hybrid tech stacks, and learn from senior engineers.
- Strong Individual Contributor: Able to take assigned tasks, ask the right clarifying questions, and execute independently with minimal oversight.
- Reliable Team Player: Values collaboration, open communication, and constructive feedback during code reviews.
- Remote-Ready Communicator: Clear, prompt communication across chat tools (Slack, Teams) and project tracking systems (Jira, Azure DevOps).
Preferred / "Nice-to-Have" Qualifications
- Practical experience working with Point-of-Sale (POS) hardware, payment processing peripherals, or self-service terminal systems.
- Exposure to serial communication (RS-232/COM), USB, or socket-based networking protocols.
- Familiarity with PCI compliance principles or secure data handling standards.
- AI-Driven Productivity: Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) to write unit tests, generate mock peripheral interfaces, and debug backend logic faster.
